There's something special about a really good platter of hummus. The taste of authentic hummus brings me back to a simpler time, my childhood. I was brought up in a way that could be described as fun-jewish. Taking out the boring and menial aspects of the religion while keeping in the fun traditions and holidays, and of course the delicious food.
Bobbe brings me back to Shabbat dinner at my dad's house on a gloomy Friday night. I anxiously wait for my dad to finish flitting through the already condensed series of necessary prayers, meanwhile a hefty piece of Challah sits in my left hand. As soon as the wait is over, the first bite of challah mixed with dips like Hummus, Tehina, and Babaganoush always tasted like heaven.
This nostalgia makes Bobbe's food even better for me, now I can't promise you'll have the same visceral reaction to your pita with hummus, but I can assure you the food is damn good.
They make a tasty chicken schnitzel, that I highly recommend, which I almost always end up getting when I go there. The service was always very friendly. My mom and I know the owner quite well, and he was always very welcoming. The food is always fresh, and tastes exactly how I expect it to, what I mean by that is that in the years of me going there the quality of their food has never faltered.
In conlcusion, if you are in Berlin and you are looking for a spot with a good jewish schnitzel, and excellent hummus look no further than Bobbe's. You'll find the restaurant in Wilmersdorf adjacent to Prager Platz in a cozy old-timey German bar turned Israeli restaurant.
